Le secrétariat du SCAR annonce la parution de la newsletter du mois d’aout 2022.

Introduction from the SCAR Secretariat

Welcome to our August newsletter !

The 10th SCAR Open Science Conference was held online from 1-10 August and it was great to see so many of you there. The conference was hosted by the National Centre for Polar and Ocean Research (NCPOR), who will also be hosting the upcoming SCAR Delegates Meeting (5-7 September). With over 1,500 participants, 64 events and 5 satellite meetings, the conference showcased the whole breath of Antarctic research. We hope you had the chance to discuss new ideas, present your latest findings, make new connections and refresh old ones. We especially enjoyed reading about your impressions and experiences on social media using the hashtag #SCAR2022.

We are looking back at eight days of plenary sessions, mini-symposia, parallel sessions and workshops. The first week of events finished with the closing ceremony, where we also awarded the 2022 SCAR Medals - congratulations to the 2022 recipients Pippa, Elisabeth, Bethan and Stephen ! All the events are still available for you to watch in the past events section on the Events Platform. The recordings will also be uploaded to our SCAR YouTube channel. We hope you enjoyed the conference and are already looking forward to seeing you at the next Open Science Conference in Pucón, Chile, in 2024.

In the meantime, our groups and Scientific Research programmes are more active than ever, with a number of workshops scheduled for this autumn. Research Theme 3 of Ant-ICON will be hosting an interactive workshop in Cambridge, UK, later this month. The 3rd circular for the AntClimNow workshop, also to be held in Cambridge, UK, in September has just been published. Registration is still open for the INSTANT workshop "The future of geodetic-geophysical observational networks in Antarctica" to be held in Fort Collins, Colorado, USA, at the end of September. Finally, have a look at the recordings of the First International Workshop on Antarctic RINGS, which was held in June in Tromsø, Norway, this past June.

As always, this newsletter also features updates, opportunities and upcoming events from the SCAR community and beyond, such as a new graphic novel on a mysterious disease in Antarctic fish.
If you have something you’d like us to share in the next newsletter, please let us know !

With best wishes,
The SCAR Secretariat
